Where traditional psychology focuses on mental illness, positive psychology focuses on well-being. Positive psychology draws from the knowledge of long-standing experts who have studied depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders for decades and is researched-based. In other words, it backs up it's principles with hard core evidence and is dedicated to the scientific research of what makes life worth living.

In positive psychology the path to well-being lies in nurturing your highest strengths. Martin Seligman, one of the founders of positive psychology, developed a five core element model of psychological well-being and happiness. This model is known as PERMA. When focused through this lens, these five elements have been proven that they can lead people towards a life with increased fulfillment, happiness, and meaning.

With a focus on the future and a drive toward one's dreams, people become more engaged, hopeful, they have more inspiration and they are driven to take action. And, yes, they can even learn to be optimistic.
